Safe Silence

The silence that surrounds me and you, the silence that we sit through. When there's nothing more to do but close our mouths and absorb the lack of sound.

It's the silence when the movie theater lights go dim, the silence between friends on a 3-hour FaceTime call, the silence of a staring contest, and the silence of peeling an eye open after a sleepover that involved more gossiping than sleeping.

Silence connects us more than words because the unspoken words are the most powerful. They are spoken through our eyes, body language, and the corners of our mouths when we frown or smile.

Because the safe silence that surrounds you and me will be forever stuck to us like glue.

In one of my previous posts, I explained that I find safety in silence to hide from myself and others. But there's also a safe silence that exists, and I don't hide there; I grow.

Where relationships have time to repair and mould into something stronger than they were. Where I have time to sit with my thoughts, discussing structured ideas but also wandering away from reality.

Imagining what my life could be if I deal with this silence right. Imagining when the quiet fades and the noise returns, what sounds will follow.

Because in silence, occurs the most change.
